We're jumping right back in our series about being....

This past Sunday, Elder Arlene contributed to this valuable sermon series that's teaching us about how valuable we are. Crazy thing is that we aren't valuable because of some amazing thing we've done or said or because we've lived such perfect lives. We're valuable simply because we were created and belong to God. When you make a masterpiece, you tend to value it, especially if you see it as being very good. Same with God. He values us because we are His masterpiece; we just have to commit to seeing ourselves as He does.

"When you know you're worth, you won't buy into anything."

She discussed many things as it relates to value, but the overarching topic, and perhaps the largest takeaway was that we are Peculiar on Purpose. Before Sunday, if someone would have called some of us "peculiar," there may have been a little offense taken, but we were taught that being peculiar is not a bad thing at all. It should actually be taken as a compliment. We're different. We're alike, but different. We've each been given a special thing that's unique to us that will help us in our purpose. That thing people have labeled as "weird" about you...use it. Use it to relate to those who are similar to you and lead them to Christ.

1 Peter 2:9-10

But you are a chosen generation [each generation has a purpose and were chosen for their specific time. You are needed for this time], a royal [we should walk around as though we're royalty because we are. Remember, we're King's kids and what He has, we should be able to have] priesthood [a priest mediates between the people and the divine. Some people need us to mediate and intercede on their behalf], a holy [we are set apart. Unfortunately we teeter on enemy lines. Don't go unless you're sent!] nation, His own special [peculiar] people [people attribute peculiar to odd, strange, or weird. It actually means a costly possession/a specially chosen good], that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but [when God sticks His "but" in it, there is some good involved] are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

We are peculiar by design!

John 15:15-16
15 Henceforth I call you not servants [we're valued royalty]; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you [I am certified to do what God has called me to do], that ye should go and bring forth fruit [people should see evidence that you've been chosen], and that your fruit should remain [your good fruit should not spoil]: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Someone is waiting for your fruit. Who is eating your fruit and do they like it? Should they really like the fruit you have to offer? Is that good tasting fruit a disguise that is leading them to death, or are you really offering good godly fruit? Good fruit can be both objective and subjective.

Objective: Either it's good or bad fruit [period].
Subjective: The taste of the fruit depends on who's eating it.

People should be drawn to your objectively good fruit not wondering if they should cleanse their palate from the taste of your subjective fruit.

Psalm 139:13
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made [know who you are and how valuable you actually are]: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
