Laborer's Sunday

Hi Everyone!

Congratulations to those who were elevated on Sunday!!

We are off to a new series where we are focusing on R E S T, specifically Overcoming Restlessness (aka or almost known as, There Remaineth a Rest).

This was the foundation of the series:

Hebrews 4:9-11
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

Rest requires intentionality, and for some of us who feel like there will be a lack if we aren't always working, some discipline is also required.

Rest is not an excuse to avoid ___, but it's changing the dynamic of your relationship with it at a particular time.

Why do we rest?
You can't pour from an empty cup.

Therefore, during the time of rest, it's important to take time to fill up. "You can't be effective until you know how to rest." If you don't know how to rest, you don't know how to fill up.

Exhaustion does not look good on you (us)

For those of us who are hesitant to rest because we feel like something will go untended to, Pastor mentioned how rest is an action word and when we're resting [God] is working. The work will still get done.

Be Still Enough to Hear

Don't find yourself doing so much that you miss the next instruction.

Genesis 2:2-3
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

"Rest is not a sin and rest is not a bad word." If God can rest, so can we.

A sabbatical is a rest or break from work. Within "Sabbatical", we find "Sabbath", which is a rest from labor. In fact, while sleeping (Pastor mentioned there's a difference between sleeping and resting), the body has an opportunity to repair itself. Rest gives us an opportunity to gain insight, vision, and we're able to see who's at work when we aren't.

There's value in making God a priority by putting down the phone to pay attention to Him. Yes, there are things we're going to miss, but, as Pastor prompted us, are we willing to miss stuff at the expense of not missing God? If you're feeling drained and don't know what's draining you and/or how to get rest, this is a perfect time to make Him a priority.

Additional Scriptures that'll be touched on include:

  • Mark 6:31
  • Exodus 23:12
  • Exodus 33:14
  • Matthew 11:28-30
Sometimes, Your "Yes" is Connected to Your Rest.
